Press Release - 11th December 2007 Glyncorrwg Wind Farm Plan Turned Down Commenting on NPTCBC Planning Committee's decision to reject plans for Glyncorrwg Wind Farm Bob Slater, Glyncorrwg Action Group's spokesman said, 'We are delighted at this decision. We have campaigned for two years against this proposal. The majority of people in the village, as was seen in our petition of 1238 signatures, were against these ugly industrial wind turbines which are 3x the height of the Ferris Wheel in Swansea. They would have been some of the highest in the UK. The petition also included many visitors to the village. For the small amount of energy produced, this wind farm would have had a drastic effect on the landscape and on people's quality of life. The proposed site was clearly unsuitable. We believe this area is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty which must be protected. Nearly 300 letters were written protesting against the wind farm. Many organisations including the Rugby Club and Pensioners Group were opposed to this development. Hywel Francis MP and Brian Gibbons AM also strongly supported our campaign, as did our local Doctor and the Church. A submission of 200 pages was also sent in outlining our case against this wind farm. We are also threatened with four turbines of 603 feet high, half a mile from the village and we would urge Gamesa to withdraw their ill conceived plans. We already have a wind farm in our backyard at Ffynnon Oer; we think that it is unjust that Neath Port Talbot is being used as a dumping ground for so many projects other areas do not want. Enough is enough. In a November programme of 'The Nature of Britain' on BBC1, in an area very like the Upper Afan Valley, Alan Titchmarsh said: 'These wildernesses are part of our National Treasure which must be preserved'. Ends Thanks
